We made the trip to Devil's Bowl Speedway for the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Series season opener. 65 cars signed in Friday night, and there were 94 pills in the hat. Of course I drew lucky #93 putting me 8th in the 7th heat race. I struggled the first laps of the heat race but on a green white checkered restart I moved from 8th to 6th. Johnny Herrera drew a 21 pill and won the 3rd heat race from the outside front row. I started 7th in the 3rd B-main, they only took the top 2 to the A-main but I fell back to 9th by the time the checkered came out. Johnny started 5th and ran 5th in the A-main, after falling back the first few laps he charged forward at the end of the race. I was really struggling to get comfortable in the new car, so Mark, Mark, my mom and I stayed up all night putting the spare car together for Saturday night. Saturday 63 cars signed in and I drew the #76 pill, lining me up 7th in the 3rd heat race. I fell from 7th to 9th in the heat after we missed the set up because the track dried out real quick during the first two heats. The heat race finish put me starting 15th in the 2nd B-main, where they only took 2 cars to the A once again. Knowing I had to pass a car a lap to make the A I went for a 3 wide pass right on the start and the hole closed up. I jumped Chad Corken's wheel and the car took a wierd bounce and cartwheeled on the front stretch. The car was torn up just a little too much to get back in the race, so we watched another great A-main from the top of the truck. Tony Bruce, Jason Johnson, and Shane Stewart put on a great show while Johnny made a late race charge to 5th place, (4th after Tony Bruce was light at the scale). I'm going to stay in Oklahoma City this week with Mac Daddy, get the car fixed up and try again next week!
